Advocacy on behalf of members
opd wants to bring members’ concerns into public debate and the places where political decisions are discussed. Advocacy should be traceable, with a clear concern, an identifiable role and reports of actions actually taken.
The original concept distinguishes two roles. Ambassadors introduce opd and its opportunities for participation to a wider audience. Advocates bring specific concerns arising from surveys into conversations and public debate. A person need not be an association member, but must explicitly accept the role.
Selection does not mean acceptance
Members can propose public figures. A proposal or survey finding may lead to an invitation. An active role only begins after confirmed acceptance. The representative directory distinguishes these states instead of presenting everyone approached as a supporter.
Freedom within a clear remit
Public engagement may include talks, interviews, meetings, events or campaign work. The topic and scope need to be agreed specifically. Reports should show activities, outcomes and documented costs. An earlier general promise of six-month reviews is not a substitute for an actual published follow-up vote.
The site does not claim independent review by a named organisation unless it has been agreed and documented. Likewise, a planned trip to Berlin or Brussels does not mean that meetings have already taken place.
